Marriage Certificate vs. Marriage License:
These are two separate documents:
A Marriage License is a legal document that authorizes a designated party to perform the ceremony, allowing you to get married.
Note: Marriage Licenses are issued prior to the ceremony and can only be issued by the state or the county where the ceremony will take place. We can not issue marriage licenses.
A Marriage Certificate is an official document that must be recorded with the County Recorders Office, and proves you were married. The Marriage Certificate shows where the ceremony took place, who performed the ceremony and the date of the ceremony.
There are two types of Certificate issued for Proof of Marriage in Clark County . Please use the following descriptions to help determine which type of Certificate you will need.

The unrecorded certificate you received at the time of your marriage is not considered “Proof of Marriage.” Only after the Marriage Certificate has been recorded and CERTIFIED, is it valid.
